The Dude Receives “KEYS TO THE UNIVERSE” – Monday, July 20th

KEYS

The Fremont neighborhood has done it again, first Zombies attack the neighborhood for a world record, now their teaming up with the gang at Lebowski Fest and the “Dude” himself is heading north for the return of Lebowski Fest in Seattle for their movie party.

The Fremont Chamber  is helping honor a fellow Achiever, with the “Keys to the Universe” before the Movie Screening at 5pm at the Fremont Troll. So why the keys to the Universe, you ask? Well this small artistic neighborhood has always touted itself as the “Center of the Universe” over the years, so it seemed fitting that we finally award the keys to a former Seattlite.

Jeff Dowd, aka the real life Jeff Lebowski, which the film is based loosely on is also a former Seattlite, part of the Seattle Seven, but his biggest claim ot fame is a cult movie icon among many movie fans for being the real life inspiration of the The Big Lebowski and we are honored that he will be joining us in Seattle for the return of Lebowski Fest.

The ceremony will take place prior to the show at 5pm at the Fremont Troll just below the Aurora bridge before the show kicks off. The keys will be presented by Jon Hegeman the Fremont Outdoor Cinema’s founder and Fremont’s Urban Mythologist,  with Marko Tubic the President of the Fremont  Chamber, along with Clover the Troll from the Fremont Arts Council officiating.

This will be the first time  the keys ever have been awarded. It marks the beginning of a new tradition in recognition of  Jeff Dowd’s outstanding example in the creation of a sustainable and compelling urban mythology and enduring character that’s epitomizes Fremont’s larger than life spirit and it’s motto: “Delibertus Quirkus: Freedom to be Peculiar.”

“People who are living large and making things happen, and capturing the imagination and whimsey of the world, need to be recognized and celebrated” says Hegeman.  Quoting someone famous,  ”If you’re not having fun you’re not playing the game right.” Seattle’ s Fremont, the Outdoor Cinema, the Arts Council and all Fremont’s quirky world famous icons from the Troll under the Aurora bridge to Lenin statues are all about Fun. That’s why Jeff’ big Lebwoski character is a perfect recipient to commence this tradition. He belongs here. The public is invited to attend at 5 at the foot of the troll the Troll under the Aurora bridge.

Jeff Dowd will be attending the Movie party after the ceremony at the Outdoor Cinema which begins at 6 pm with live music from Har Mar SuperStar, and features refeshments ( over 21). Movie will be hosted at Fremont Studios, the adjoining building where the screen is painted on, movie starts at 9pm.

Lebowski Fest is an annual festival begun in 2002 in Louisville, Kentucky celebrating Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1998 cult film The Big Lebowski, whose fans’ line memorization and creative attire rival those of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Festival’s main event each year is a night of unlimited bowling with various contests including Costume, Trivia, Hardest and Farthest Travelled contests. Held over a weekend, events typically include a pre-fest party with bands the night before the bowling event as well as a “garden party” event (a day long outdoor party with bands, vendor booths, games) at the Louisville fest. Various celebrities from the film have attended some of the events, including Jeff Bridges, who attended the Los Angeles event. An account of the first ever Lebowski fest is included in Mike Walsh’s novel Bowling Across America. For more information and tickets for their Official Movie Party on Monday, July 20th or Bowling Party on Tuesday, July 21st, go to their official website www.lebowskifest.com

RED, WHITE, & DEAD – PHOTO BOOTH presented by NIGHT ZERO

Picture 13
Thanks to all you Zombies that waited in line at the Red, White, and Dead Zombie Walk to make history and get your photo taken with local troupe, Night Zero , a photo comic book, or fumetti, produced on location in Seattle, Washington. It is a collaboratively-driven project that blends the talents of writers, actors, photographers, digital artists, and film crews, to create a graphic novel unlike any other.
NIGHT ZERO is produced like a feature film, shot on-location with a full cast and crew, complete with sets, props, and costumes. Using the emerging technology of High Dynamic Range photography (HDR) and a process called tonemapping, our digital artists are able to transform the images into a unique visual style somewhere between photography and illustration. There is no tracing or hand drawing superimposed on the photographs– the “illustrated” style is purely the result of the HDR photography method.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) PG 94min

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)

4/5
This is the third installment of the “Ice Age” animated trilogy from 20th Century Fox Studios.
The plot: After mammoth Manny (Ray Romano) met Ellie (Queen Latifah) in “Ice Age: The Meltdown”, the previous episode, the couple now expects their first baby-mammoth. Manny is anxious to make sure for the arrival of the baby. Saber-tooth tiger Diego (Denis Leary) is tempted to leave the pack, and sloth Sid (John Leguizamo) also decides to form a family, and steals some dinosaur eggs. Sid hides them in the under-ground world he accidentally discovered, but the mother-dinosaur wants her eggs back, and “the herd” has to rescue Sid. While dodging other dinosaurus-predators, “the pack” meats a dinosaur-hunter — one-eyed weasel known as Buck, who becomes their guide.
10-point review:
1. Many laugh-outloud moments, mostly thanks to the new Scrat’s adventures.
2. Some dialogs and jokes were for adults only. For example, Manny’s “I thought you are the one with hormonal dis-balance” was rather off-putting. Milking of the bull joke is so old it’s not funny anymore.
3. The movie has a lot of heart, but the first movie had more. All baby-animals are adorable. Even the scary dinosaurs are not particularly scary and deserve compassion – they are so unlucky to be predators, but with a little understanding they too deserve a place on the planet :)
4. A whole different world, a tropical paradise - under ice? I think it’s the only way to explain the presence of dinosaurs, because they were extinct a long time before mammoth walked the Earth
5. Kids, even very little ones, I mean 3-4 year-olds, also laughed and followed the movie up until Buck character was introduced.
6. Buck was so weird he felt so out-of-place. It seemed like he was from a completely different movie, and so were a few pop-culture references and jokes, such as parody of “red-wire or blue-wire” time-bomb scenario.
7. Buck (voiced by Simon Pegg) didn’t look like a weasel. He was more like a upright-walking hyena that behaves like a pirate.
8. Nobody ever gets seriously hurt – they bounce back (just like little kids), and nobody gets eaten – even if they are swallowed they are immediately regurgitated.
9. The animation is not exactly state-of-the-art, but it’s good and lively, just like in the previous two movies.
10. Song choice was not that great. The first movie had the best songs.
It’s a very pleasant and entertaining film. Scrat is the best!
Memorable quotes:
Manny: [From Trailer] “After we rescue Sid, I’m going to kill him.”
Sid: [from trailer] “I’m too young to be eaten!”
Crash: Dude, You’re awesome! You’re like the brother I never had!
The cast: Manny - Ray Romano | Ellie - Queen Latifah | Diego - Dennis Leary | Sid - John Leguizamo | Eddie - Josh Peck | Crash - Seann William Scott | Scrat - Chris Wedge | Scratte - Karen Disher | Buck – Simon Pegg
The crew: Director – Carlos Saldanha & Mike Thurmeier | Producers – John C. Donkin, Lori Forte | Original music – John Powell | Art Direction – Mike Knapp | 20th Century Fox Studios | Blue Sky Studioshttp://www.FeedBurner.com).gif" />

My photos and videos of Jupiter and its moons

I already uploaded the pictures to Facebook, so here’s the link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2029903&id=1198149366&l=d18f0eccf2

The photographs were taken with Canon EOS 20D attached via T-mount to the T-port in the rear of Meade ETX-125 telescope.

The videos are on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spb5083Wq5U and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKTxx9yxw3M

The videos were taken using a-focal focusing through the 26mm eyepiece with Canon SX 200 IS new camera that came out in April. It can shoot HD videos in 720p, but the sensor is not sensitive enough for sharper pictures.

By adding the 3x Barlow lens I was really able to bring the details of the planet, but due to Earth’s fast rotation it was very hard to keep up with the planet as it moves out of the view in a matter of seconds – a big challenge without auto-tracking feature of the telescope engaged.

Enjoy and leave your comments! LMK if you have any questions!http://www.FeedBurner.com).gif" />If you liked this post, buy me a beerRelated posts:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

One would think that a movie whose principle cast members are made of metal and steel would be able to steer well away from racist themes and stereotypes. After all, aren’t we all one robot nation, under Prime? Unfortunately, Michael Bay has once again found a way to beat the odds and as a result what should have been a harmless summer film based on a children’s toy is in fact a never-ending, two and a half hour bout with bigotry.
"Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen" never misses a chance to make the audience feel uncomfortable about race relations. At times it feels almost as though George Lucas must have been a consultant on this film, thanks largely to the inclusion of twin robot versions of the lamentable Jar-Jar Binks. Remember how cool Jar-Jar was, and how the only thing cooler than Jar-Jar would have been two Jar-Jars? Well, Bay got that message loud and clear.
This time, not only do they swap their faux-Rasta vernacular for dialogue stolen straight out of a fourth-grade Philly education, but one of the robots even sports a GOLD TOOTH. That’s right – Transformers have TEETH, and anthropomorphized black transformers have GOLD TEETH to go with their FIREBIRD WINE and IMMACULATE WHITE PUMA SNEAKERS. This matches up well with the sensitive scene involving the only other black character in the film, a butcher who is saving up to replace his hilariously buck-toothed grille. Not quite as funny as the Binks-Bots, but then again, not everything that drops out of Bay’s ass can be made of solid gold.
Moving beyond the painful undertones of the film, it quickly becomes clear about 30 minutes in that most of the script was somehow destroyed during a terrible bender and rather than take the time to write a new one, it was decided to stage an interminable battle in the desert. Hopelessly outclassed humans take on wave after wave of nameless Deceptacons while Optimus Prime’s body lies in state in the background like some kind of metal-plated Lenin. The action is so confusing, and the robots all look so similar, that it is difficult to even care about how our heroes are doing as they run from one sand dune to another, cowering in fear.
We all know the dangers of making a videogame out of a movie – well, in this case, they made the videogame first, “Anonymous Transformer Battle Royale,” which sounds really cool until you realize it’s stuck in demo mode and you don’t get to actually interact with anything on the screen. I am sure all across America there are confused senior citizens still sitting in theaters, waiting for the actual movie to start.
The first Transformers film was flawed but watchable. This excretion, however, is pure tedium wrapped in a dazzling array of explosions and minstrel show dialogue. I kept waiting for a gigantic robotic representation of Michael Bay’s penis to jet across the screen, similar to the sneaker thrown by the frustrated “Return of the Jedi” modeler, but alas, I had to settle for Megan Fox’s ass, which if you think about it is growing more and more powerful by the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if “Transformer’s 3” was set entirely on both of her sublime cheeks, starring micro-Transformers who could babble on and on in their inane language for hours while the men in the audience remained completely silent and enraptured. It’s the closest thing I can imagine to a religious experience in cinema.
